Road Poets have gained fans around the world with many in Europe and beyond.

A recent review from Alodora Records UK said this: “One such rootsy artist is the gifted Dave Teichroeb out of Gabriola, British Columbia, acknowledged as running the gamut from ‘90s rocker to Texas styled singer-songwriter’. This craft has recently been captured on his glorious 2024 record, the exceptional ten-track collection of Road Poets, a set with acute lyrical reflections and warm and inviting sonic tones, Dave’s quintessential offering to date.”

The evening will start at 7pm with Dave performing solo and Road Poets joining for an “unplugged set”. Second set is electric. Road Poets will perform the ten album tracks plus five new songs and some rarities. The Road Poets album in CD version, with download card, is available directly from Dave Teichroeb (dave@davet.ca). Many Gabriolans  were involved in the production of the recording including Ron Cote, Fraser Gabbott, Tina Jones, Brad Shipley, Pierre Schryer, Brian McMahon, Andrew Clayden, Kathy McIntyre and Chris Jams.

Too Big To Fail is epic tale of the history of mankind. It starts with evolution and ends with Ai. It’s riffy rock song, with bass solos by Kelly Field and guitar solos by guest Steve Knox. Old Technology is and old song from the 90’s. Once The band started playing it we had so much fun we couldn’t help include it on the album Road Poets. These Road Poets videos are the first 3 of 10 that will eventually be created.

From 90’s rocker to Texas styled singer/songwriter, Dave Teichroeb is back with this 10 song rock album. Teichroeb pulls the best from his 70’s and 80’s influences, and blends this with his love of modern Americana music. His first full album recording in 15 years is a knockout punch of catchy, riff -driven, story songs. ROAD POETS feels old and new. Teichroeb talk/sings his words like poetry with clever turns of phrase and insight into the human condition. The world is reflected back to us locally and globally through his thoughtful eyes.

Co-produced with Ron Cote, ROAD POETS was recorded and mixed on Gabriola using Ron’s Road Runner mobile studio. Road Poets, the band, is Dave Teichroeb (vocals/guitar), Kelly Field (bass) and Andreas Kahre (drums). Musical guests include Brad Shipley (guitar), Tina Jones (vocals), Pierre Schryer( fiddle), Nico Rhodes (keys), Fraser Gabbott (harp), Brian McMahon (sax), Kathy McKintyre & Chris Jams (backing vocals), Andrew Claydon (trombone), Steve Knox (guitar), Lewis Mellville (banjo) and Jeff Bird (theremin).

The occasional ballad. Poetic songs about Gabriola, aging, broken homes, travelling, climate change, love, technology, and the pandemic get woven in.

The band showcases a diverse range of Gabriola talent: Dave Teichroeb (guitar/vocals), Kelly Field (bass) and Andreas Kahre (drums). It’s not uncommon for musical guests to be added in at live shows. Road Poets Rock the Skol Pub

Road Poets at the Skol, Gabriola

June 18th saw Gabriola’s own Road Poets ROCK the Skol Pub. It was night where all the pieces came together. That would be three pieces, as the band is now a three piece. Back when Rob was in the band and before Fraser, Road Poets were developing nicely as a three piece. Well game on cause the band ripped through two 50 minute sets. Lots of jamming and solos. A new tune – Memory Lane. A few old ones that haven’t seen the light of day for a year or two – Stale Date, Hurricane and Gabriola.

Here’s a few pics courtesy of Melanie.

Please Follow

It is important to know musicians really only make money when they play live. All the other stuff is essentially ways to promote and keep the fans and audience connected to their music and careers. Times have changed from when an artist sold CDs at record stores, online or at concerts. It’s very important to FOLLOW the artist. This is their connection to you. Each time they upload music you’ll be told about it. It also helps them gain credibilty and more inclusion in the streaming service’s official playlists. When a musican is added to an official playlist it’s almost the same as what getting played on the radio was in the “old days”. Help feed the algorithym.

Streaming Services Don’t Pay Musicians… Much

I also need to mention this about streaming. Most musicians get so little from the streaming services the music is essentially free. Below is a chart showing average payouts. From a high of .01 cents per stream on Amazon to .0001 cents per play on Youtube. An example on Spotify is 1000 streams would make the artist $3. About enough for a beer. Buy your favourite artist a beer when you see them too!

Find Another Way To Support Musicians

Always find another way to pay for your Gabriola music on streaming services. Band Camp allows Artists to sell their music directly to you. (Some Artists will only stream through Band Camp bcause they offer this.) Throw a big tip at the market when they play live. Pay to watch their online concerts. Buy a ticket to see their concert. Go to their website and buy a CD or other merchandise. Spotify allows artists to post a link for you to send money directly to the artist. My link is to fundraise for a new CD.

Listen

Most of all listen. Join or find a streaming service and listen. Learn the songs and words. Find your favourite songs. Follow to help my music gain more attention and to for you to know when new music is released. I will play live again. Nothing is greater than the thrill of seeing fans mouthing or singing along to the words of a song you wrote.

See you on the lawn this summer, Dave Teichroeb
